November is World Vegan Month
November 1st, 2019 will be the 25th anniversary of World Vegan Day. In 1994, veganism was far less heard of, but today, veganism is just the opposite. There’s been a 600% increase in people identifying as vegans in the U.S in the last three years. According to a report by research firm GlobalData, only 1% of U.S. consumers claimed to be vegan in 2014. And in 2017, that number rose to 6%. Veganism is particularly popular among people aged 20 through 35, and celebrities like Natalie Portman, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Joaquin Phoenix, Ellen DeGeneres, Brad Pitt, Laverne Cox, and Stevie Wonder. Many athletes are also vegans, or adhere to a mostly plant based diet, such as Tom Brady and Kyrie Irving.
While going fully vegan has become popular, what's even more common is a semi-vegan diet. Many people have stopped drinking cow milk, and have opted for plant based milks instead. When it comes to meat, many people have stopped eating beef, and stick to leaner meats instead. On top of trying to incorporate more plant based foods into their diets, many people, particularly millennials, are opting for food from local businesses instead.
One of the most common methods of trying a plant based diet is #MeatlessMonday, when someone goes meatless on a Monday. For the month of November, which is National Vegan Month, we are going to give you a new #MeatlessMonday recipe every Monday for you to try, and we will be highlighting vegan meals throughout the month as well.
