How to Make Kombucha Coffee

Posted by Katie Boyer on

We're familiar with viral coffee trends, and the latest one we're taking a look at is Kombucha Coffee. Kombucha is a type of fermented tea that has been around for thousands of years. However, it's gained popularity in the United States in the past few years, so much so that you can find it in grocery stores with ease and variety now. While the world tends to be divided between coffee drinkers and tea drinkers, Kombucha Coffee combines the two together.Β

Typically, kombucha is made with a brewed tea, but someone had the genius idea of making it with brewed coffee instead. Follow the recipe below and make your own!

Ingredients:

Directions

  1. In a glass or ceramic container, dissolve the sugar in the hot coffee.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Make sure the coffee is free of any leftover coffee grounds.
  3. Add the kombucha scoby and cover the jar with a tight-weave cloth or coffee filter, secured with a tight rubber band.
  4. Ferment your kombucha coffee in a cool dark spot for at least 5 days.
  5. After 5 days, start tasting the kombucha daily using a straw.
  6. The kombucha coffee is ready when it tastes pleasant to you. Not too sweet and not too tart.
