Use and Care
In order to keep the inside of your machine in ultimate functioning order, it must be periodically cleaned. Scale buildup from naturally occurring minerals in your water can build up on sensitive components like the inside of the boiler, which left unchecked can cause considerable damage to the machine. In addition, coffee oil build-up behind the shower screen (the part of the machine that comes into contact with the coffee grounds in the portafilter) can restrict the flow of water into the portafilter. This results in an uneven brew with insufficient pressure. By descaling your machine every month and cleaning it every other week (assuming you brew one to three shots of espresso per day), your machine will be trouble-free for years. We recommend a product like Urnex Dezcal for monthly descaling, and Urnex Cafiza for coffee-oil and scale cleaning semimonthly.
Warranty
The Rancilio Silvia M V5 is warranted against defects in parts and workmanship for 2 years with J.L. Hufford. This service contract includes free labor at J.L. Hufford's service facility and covers internal parts excluding replaceable parts such as the group head gasket, portafilter basket, and shower screen. Any damage resulting from abuse, misuse, mishandling, lack of maintenance, or catastrophe will not be covered. This includes damage to the boiler heating element, which only happens when a user does not ensure the boiler is fully charged with water upon startup or after steaming. This warranty applies only for household use in the United States. Commercial use will void the warranty. J.L. Hufford will pay for shipping after warranty service is complete to the contiguous 48 states only, extra shipping charges will apply for Hawaii, Alaska, or Puerto Rico. As with any Demo unit we sell, there may be some cosmetic issues such as slight scratches or scuffs which does not affect the performance of the machine.
