Use, Care, and Warranty
American Clad Cookware features high-quality properties designed to cook delicious food for a lifetime. To keep your pans working in tip-top shape, following these special use and care guidelines.
First Use
Before the first use, wash the pan with remaining manufacturing oils. To do this, wash the pan with 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar.
Heating Temperatures
High-quality stainless steel cookware means you rarely need to use temperatures above low to medium heat. Using excessive high heat can cause your food to burn and the pan to discolor. Before cooking, preheat the pan to ensure a stable heat throughout the surface. Turn the burner on and let the pan sit for 1-2 minutes before cooking.
Cooking Oils
Once the pan is preheated, add cold oil to the hot pan and allow it to heat up. Be sure the oil is heat to a slight simmer, but not to the point of smoking. If smoking occurs, clear off the pan and begin again. Never use an aerosol cooking spray as this can cause a sticky film to build up on the pan which could affect the performance of the cookware.
Cleaning
We recommend hand washing to prolong the lifetime of the pan. Always use hot, soapy water and a soft sponge to clean your pan. Never use an abrasive brush or sponge while cleaning. If burnt food becomes too hard to clean, either soak the pan in water or boil water to release food. Difficult food should easily wipe away afterwards. After you are done washing, thoroughly dry the pan to prevent water spots from forming.
Restoring Shine
You can restore the shine of American Clad Cookware by using a stainless steel polishing cleanser. This will remove marks and discoloration caused by burned food. Simply add the cleanser with water to form a paste and clean the pan. Extremely stubborn stains may require the paste to sit inside the pan for a few hours. Clean and dry thoroughly polishing is complete.
Seasoning
Stainless steels pans have the ability to be seasoned to create a non-stick surface. Creating a nonstick surface can be done in five (5) easy steps:
- Preheat the pan on medium-high.
- Add enough oil to the pan to cover the surface with about 1/8" thick. Be sure to use a high heat oil such as vegetable or canoa oil.
- Leave the pan on the heat for about 6 minutes, or until the oil begins to smoke.
- Remove the pan from the heat and allow it to cool.
- Remove excess oil from the pan using a dry paper towel. You should see a glossy finish on the stainless steel surface.
Cleaning a Seasoned Pan
To clean, simply wipe it with a paper towel. Cleaning a seasoned pan with soap and water will remove the coating. If this happens, follow the five steps above to re-season it.
