FOREMAN: the forged Solingen knife
The knives from the collection FOREMAN are forged by hand from one piece of red hot chromium molybdenum steel. It takes about 40 to 45 single steps to create a knife: forging, deburring (meaning: removing edges from the blade spine), assembling and sharpening. Forged FOREMAN knives are heavier and have a more palpable high quality than ordinary kitchen knives. Blade and tang (meaning: the prolonging of the blade in the handle) are very firmly connected. The knife bolster, the junction between blade and handle, creates even more stability and balance. An additional bolster at the end of the handle adds to the knife's balance and provides furthermore a high-quality look.
The used chromium molybdenum steel is a material often used for high quality knives, because it offers a good combination of high and long-lasting sharpness, rust resistance and is easy to be sharpened after a long usage.
Please note: the FOREMAN knives are not suitable for the dishwasher!
FOREMAN: functionality & design made in Solingen
The FOREMAN knives create a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics, between craftsmanship "made in Solingen" and Far Eastern inspired design. Thanks to their distinctive design and ergonomic handle made out of oiled walnut, these premium kitchen items are easy and comfortable to handle, despite their higher-than-average weight. With FOREMAN, Carl Mertens and the designer Carsten Gollnick have created a range of sophisticated, highly aesthetic and functional design tools for the kitchen. For this, the whole collection was awarded with the IF Design Award 2018.
