Olive Parmesan Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus ¼ cup finely grated for topping
  • 7 ounces Kalamata olives, halved
  • Olive oil for greasing and brushing

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, and 1 cup of warm water until a rough dough forms.

  3. Add the remaining ½ cup of water, 1 cup Parmesan, and halved olives. Mix thoroughly until ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  4. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it in a bowl brushed with olive oil and dusted with flour.

  5. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm spot until it has tripled in size, about 3-4 hours.

  6. Place a Dutch oven or French oven in the oven to heat up. Brush the inside with olive oil or butter.

  7. Gently transfer the risen dough into the hot Dutch oven. Brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan.

  8. Cover and bake for 30 minutes at 450°F. Then reduce the temperature to 375°F and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 200°F.

  9. Remove from the oven and let the bread rest inside the Dutch oven for 20 minutes before cooling on a rack.
