Modern Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ΒΎ pound pork sausage
  • 3 cans (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cans (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Β½ teaspoon pepper
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, minced
  • 3 cups small-curd cottage cheese (4%)
  • 8 oz ricotta cheese
  • Β½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

Directions:

  1. In a Swiss Diamond HD 10" Fry Pan, cook beef and sausage over medium heat until browned; crumble and drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, garlic, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and parsley. Fold in cottage cheese, ricotta, and Parmesan cheeses.
  4. Preheat oven to 375Β°F. Spread 1 cup of meat sauce evenly in a Swiss Diamond HD Roasting Pan (12.5" x 10").
  5. Layer with noodles, provolone slices, 2 cups of cheese mixture, 1 cup mozzarella, and repeat stages until all noodles are used (about four layers).
  6. Top with remaining meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Cover and bake for 50 minutes, then uncover and bake for an extra 20 minutes until bubbly and heated through.
  7. Let stand for 15 minutes before slicing and serving this timeless Italian classicβ€”reborn in a modern kitchen.
