I recently bought the Rancilio Silvia and Rancilio Rocky from Hufford. Excellent machines at a good price. The first day was extremely frustrating because I kept trying to get a decent crema with the 2 free lbs of espresso bean that came with the Silvia machine. Apparently these beens are NOT appropriate for making espresso. I just could not get a crema with these beans. Why in the world would "light" roaster beans be mixed in with beans intended for espresso? Also I question the freshness of these beans. Honestly I couldn't get a decent crema on my espresso until a bought a package of Starbucks Espresso! The machines are wonderful...highly recommend.

Outstanding performance. I bought the combo of the Rocky grinder with doser and the Silvia along with the SS base. The base is nice but not all that useful. It holds a few components but the filter holder won't fit and the drawer with the knock bar seems too flimsy to use unless pulled all the way out from the base--and then it's messy. I recommend a separate knock box with a rubber coated bar instead of a wooden one. The grinder works great and the doser is at least handy if not perfectly accurate. Once set, it provides perfectly ground espresso--I used some Illy espresso as a comparison for grind and got my locally roasted whole bean espresso to produce a comparable result. Finally, the Silvia is a delight to use--very "pro" feeling in quality once you get the grind, dose, tamp right. I do find a perfect shot is brewed in a shorter time than recommended--about 15-18 seconds instead of the 25-30 the manual suggests. Only one complaint--the tamper is lightweight and convex on the bottom and I believe flat works better. All in all a great machine that I love to use and show off!

Plenty has been written about Rancilio's Rocky Grinder and the Silvia espresso machine. Add me to the list of extremely satisifed users. I'm also extremely pleased with my online and telephone experience with JL Hufford. They're great folks. I'll use them again.
