Harvesting beans and leaves from some of the world's most delicate ecosystems can
produce some of the greatest coffees and teas. Often this is done at a great cost to our world environment.
At JL Hufford, several of our coffee and tea products are grown in these precarious ecosystems, but you can be
assured that all our beverages may be enjoyed fully, guilt-free. There are several global policing organizations
to protect these delicate ecosystems, certifying products as safe to the environment. The products below are all
certified as safely grown and harvested from their respective environments, eco-friendly and delicious.

Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of
renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality
for future generations. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides;
fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation.

Fair Trade Certification gives farmers and workers the ability
to lift themselves out of poverty by investing in their farms and communities, protecting
the environment and developing skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace. Fair
price and labor conditions are assessed as well and certified by TransFair, USA’s rigorous
audit system, which tracks products from farm to finished product, verifying industry
compliance with Fair Trade criteria.

Bird Friendly
Coffees & Teas

The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, in order to foster
greater understanding, appreciation and protection of bird migration, classifies certain
Latin American farms as "Bird Friendly". Bird Friendly coffees and teas, often referred to
as "shade-grown", are grown under a canopy of trees instead of on land that has been cleared
for the purpose of farming.

The Sustainable Agriculture Network awards the Rainforest
Alliance Certified eco-label to farms, not to companies or products. They work with farmers
to conform their operations to standards for protecting wildlife, wild lands, workers' rights
and local communities. Farms in the program are fully inspected by auditors and must
demonstrate continued progress.
