Hazelnuts have a distinctive flavor that can be snooped out of any dish. They are used in confectionery to make chocolate truffles and praline. Have you ever tried Nutella? In high school we had a German exchange student who introduced me to this wonderful spread. Of course, you can find it in just about any Wal-Mart grocery isle, but I was convinced he brought it with him. Nutella is this chocolate hazelnut spread that is super creamy and is tasty on just about everything! As a snack I would dip graham crackers and even regular saltines in it. For breakfast, bagels, toast, French toast, waffles, and pancakes help make this spread the best out there, according to me!
What’s great about hazelnuts is they are rich in protein and unsaturated fat. They have significant amounts of thiamine and vitamin B6. Hazelnuts are especially important to a place like Vienna, Austria due to their world famous torts such as the Viennese Hazelnut Tort. Hazelnut paste is a very important ingredient in these treats.
