GourmetGeeks: A JL Hufford blog

Ah Nuts! (From Michelle on Full House? Come on.)

One of my favorite snacks is salted almonds.  They’re great because they aren’t messy and really easy to take to-go.  I always thought I was eating a nut when I consumed an almond; this, however, is not the case.  An almond is actually the seed of a tree.  Botanically, the almond is a fruit, not a nut!  It’s hard to believe, but before the almond is roasted and still green, it is actually quite sour if eaten.  Almonds are low in carbohydrates and have been used ground into flour as an ingredient in low carbohydrate diets.  It has been claimed that almonds can help improve complexion, improve movement of food through the colon and the prevention of cancer. The almond plant grows mainly in the Middle East during a small portion of the year.  The next recipe will take you on a rocky road through the many levels of pleasure as you sip down this delicious beverage.

Rocky Road Mocha:  1oz. Torani Chocolate Sauce, 1/2oz. Torani Toasted marshmallow Syrup, 1/2oz. Torani Orgeat (Almond) Syrup, 8oz. Milk, 1-2 Shots Espresso.

We had a walnut tree in our back yard when I was little.  It was a great tree for our tire swing, until the rope broke and I fell flat on my face.  No joke.  My face has never felt so numb. It always produces so many walnuts.  No surprise there.  But it was annoying when I had to push mow our back yard because they were so big that they made it really scary to run over them with a rotating blade.  Despite all that, I still love walnuts, especially when they are frozen.  Try this drink out and see if it’s as good to you as it was to me!

Divinity Latte:  3/4oz. Torani Toasted Walnut Syrup, 1/2oz. Torani Toasted Marshmallow Syrup, 8oz. Milk, 1-2 Shots Espresso.

ENJOY!!
