Tea Brewing Temperatures

Tea brewing may seem like a simple process... Drop a tea bag or infuser into boiling water, wait a couple of minutes, and enjoy.  Right?  Actually, did you know that many of the finer teas should be steeped temperatures below boiling?  For example, green and white teas are very delicate and are much more flavorful when brewed at lower, cooler temperatures.  With a fabulous new gourmet tea machine called FINE T, brewing the perfect cup of tea at the correct water temperature and infusion time has never been easier!  The FINE T machine is fully programmable for all types of fine tea (including black, green, white, puerh, rooibos, and herbals).  Until this snazzy machine is available, you can perfect your cup of tea by following our suggestions below and adjust to your own personal tastes:

Black Tea - Robust; Steep in boiling water for 4-6 minutes.

Oolong Tea - Semi-robust; Steep at 190°F for 5-8 minutes.

Green Tea - Delicate; Steep between 150-160°F for 2-4 minutes.

White Tea - Very delicate; Steep at 180°F for at least 4-6 minutes.

Rooibos (Red) Tea - Robust; Steep in boiling water for 4-6 minutes.

Herbal Tea - Steep in boiling water for about 5 minutes. With such varying herbs used in so many teas, this tea should be perfected to your preferences.

Happy Steeping!

The Tea Experiment

I had an urge the other day to buy some of our loose Republic of Tea Mango Ceylon tea. I got the urge when I saw the mesh tea infusers that we carry. We carry the Mango Ceylon which is available in regular and decaffeinated. We also offer tea bags instead of just tealeaves.

I stopped at one of our coffee shops and picked up the tea and a bottle of the Torani syrup. I whisked away to make some tasty ice tea. The directions suggest doubling the amount of tealeaves that you use if you are going to make iced tea. So, I heated up a coffee cup with water and brewed my tea and put it over ice.   I felt like a super-bartender when I added my Torani syrup to my glass. Be careful when adding your syrup because it’s not too hard to over-do it. I mixed up my simple glass of iced tea and was in heaven! I guess I did not realize how easy it is to do! Now my guests request that I make them some iced tea!

I hear Ginger Peach also makes a great ice tea too!

Tea for You, Tea for Me

The reason I love the REPUBLIC of TEA brand so much,  is not just because the variety of flavors, or the high-end quality of the tea itself. Primarily, I am a fan of this brand because of its packaging. The canister of tea itself is a well made cylinder with an air tight lid that is easy to remove and replace without too much pulling or puching. Once, my grandmother was “helping” my 4 year old with an alternate brand of herbal tea, and when the lid FINALLY came off, it was with sufficient force, that the canister flew out of their hands and onto the floor, spilling most of the contents.  This would happen in a similar fashion with most other brands almost each time. This has never happened with any of the REPUBLIC of TEAs. In addition to this, the packaging is decorative enough to be placed on a table with h’ors d’oeuvres-ready for company,

Fruity Blast!

This is a tasty treat for all ages! Make one of these frozen drinks from nine different  flavors. There is Banana Banana, Lemon cooler, Mango Madness, Passion Orange Guava, Peach Pizazz, Pineapple Coconut, Pomegranate Blueberry, Strawberry Sensation, and Wild Berry Boost. My favorite is the strawberry sensation. Big Train's Fruit Tea Blast is made from real fruit or juice and green tea. If you are looking to get your vitamin C for the day, this gives you 150% daily per serving. These drinks are fat free and are 99% caffeine free. Besides the great nutritional facts, fruit tea blasts are simply delicious! One bottle makes eight servings, but if you are looking to make more for a party cases are available as well.

Soothing Tea

Being sick is not fun, especially when your throat is bugging you. I have been trying out different teas that JL Hufford carries and I have found a favorite! The Republic of Tea Ginseng Peppermint is so good and especially soothing for my throat. The full leaf tea has a noticeable difference from most tea bags people use. The unique flavor stands out when the leaves unfold in hot water. Even if you are not the biggest fan of tea, you will notice the comfort it can give you whether you are sick or just needing a warm beverage. There are many choices of flavors the Republic of Tea offers so even if you aren’t a peppermint lover like I am, you can find the right one for you.
