The best little machine I have ever owned. We use it every day for both steamed milk and espresso. Both features are amazing. Eaze of use and lack of clogging (we have horrible water quality). Simply the best money I've spent. Oh, we bought this little baby in September of 2001.

The Rancilio Miss Silvia has become a treasured member of my family-----it consistently creates fantastic espresso and foamed milk, is a beautifully designed object, and stands up to daily use over a long time. I would highly recommend it to any serious coffee lover.

Always great espresso. . .never a problem!
Works best for me with Illy pre-ground, dark roast in cans (not having too much time or counter space for a separate grinder), so I'm not a true perfectionist; still makes loads of crema, and Illy's always consisent.
Methodology: exert consistent, sufficient manual pressure from cup-to-cup on grounds in filter (a bit more needed after the coffee's been opened for about a week. . .give the machine at least 10 minutes warm-up time. . .pre-warm cup w/a bit of water in the microwave for about :25sec. . .don't overfill reservoir past "maximum line"--water will spill out from inside of machine.
Highly recommend machine for cost/quality/value.

All aspects of my purchase from JL Hufford met my highest expectations - the order was confirmed immediately, the shipment came on the date promised, and the product was easy to use and of the highest quality. An extra year's warranty was included as a special surprise. I will use JL Hufford again for my caffeination needs!

An incredible machine that takes a little getting used to, but once the relationship is established - you will live happily wired for ever after. Solid, reliable and good looking what more could you ask for?

It was difficult for me to give this unit a 4 rating as beautiful and well built as it is. However, I have been an espresso lover for many years and owned several machines starting from stove tops to the current electric manual models that I prefere. I guess if I had not owned a "Baby Gaggia" I would have little to compare this machine to. Being a fickled espresso drinker who likes a nice "head" of crema on my pour the Rancilio Silva is a finicky machine. Other machines like the Baby Gaggia for some reason are much less picky about the grind and how it is packed. NOW, once you get the grind, tamp, and for sure a fresh batch of beans you will be delighted what the Rancilio Silvia machine is capable of doing. Let's face it, I already owned the Baby Gaggia when I bought the Rancilio Silvia. I have had both of the units apart and there is no doubt that the Rancilio machine is the better built of the two.

For a coffee nut like myself messing about with the grind and the compacting is not a problem. Just don't think your going to get a perfect pour the first crack out of the box. But, I think it will be a great lifetime investment.
