The unit may be shipped with the older design carafe; it makes a mess when you pour a cup of coffee. Krups will provide the newer design if you contact them before your warranty expires. Unfortunately the unit will develop a leak at the seal between the water tank and the coffee maker. Krups has not made design modifications to address this. Once you are out of your warranty period you are out of luck. do not purchase unless you like cleaning up an ocean of water with each pot that you brew.
