John Weiss—Greenwich Workshops
John Weiss was born and raised in Akron, Ohio and attended Kent State University. When he left college after two years, he began working in the landscape business. Later, while on a trip to Maine, John was fortunate enough to view an exhibit of Andrew Wyeth's work, which inspired him to pursue art. His father who was a draftsman and to whom he credits his disciplined approach to art encouraged John's interest in art.
Another influence in his art career is his father-in-law, a great duck-decoy carver who gives lessons in carving. As John pursued his love of painting, his talent in the successful creation of beautiful artwork spread by word-of-mouth. Soon his artwork was being sold worldwide. In addition to popular prints of dogs, John is known for his paintings of horses. He has undertaken equestrian commissions for nationally prominent clients, and, as a special request, one of his dog portraits was presented to Queen Elizabeth.
Among his many achievements, John has won the "Cover of the Year" award from the National Dog Writer's Association. The appeal of John's artwork can be attributed in part to his understanding and perspective of everyday life. Said John, "I enjoy painting things people can relate to, perhaps because I can relate to them myself. They're familiar things, part of an everyday life we can understand and enjoy. Life can be rough on anybody, so if I can create something that makes people feel better, then that's what I'll do." In his work, John enjoys communicating the special relationships between man and man's best friend. Although a dog may be man's best friend, dogs' best friend may be John Weiss who has immortalized them with artistry and sensitivity in a series of Greenwich Workshop prints dating back to 1982.Our Price:$10.00
