Descale Your Boiler
Urnex Dezcal Activated Scale Remover is specifically formulated to effectively descale hot water tanks and components of coffee and espresso machinery. By removing mineral deposits which clog and impair brewing equipment, Dezcal allows machines to perform at optimal levels. Non-toxic and bio-degradable, Dezcal is suitable for use by both professional technicians and home users alike. This box includes packets suitable for 4 uses. Follow your machine's descaling procedures once you have ensured the powder is completely dissolved. This method is only recommended for espresso machines with dual-purpose boilers and thermoblocks. Espresso machines with heat exchanger boilers have more complicated descaling procedure.
Clean Brew Group and Filter Baskets
Urnex Cafiza Espresso Machine Cleaner Powder is an integral part of the daily maintenance routine for espresso machines. Specifically formulated for effective use in the back flush cleaning process, Cafiza is designed to combine maximum solubility and cleaning power with easy rinsability. Cafiza is recommended for use with a wide-range of traditional espresso machines and is NSF certified for metal compatibility and safety. You can soak portafilter baskets and components, as well as brew group components, in a solution of Cafiza and hot water to remove coffee oils. You can also use a teaspoon of Cafiza with the blank portafilter basket to clean the internals of the brew group. Your espresso machine must have a 3-Way Solenoid Valve to clean using this method. Some machines that include a 3-Way Solenoid Valve are the Rancilio Silvia, the Ascaso Steel DUO Professional, and the Nuova Simonelli Oscar.
Blank Portafilter Basket
This 58 millimeter Blank (or Blind) Portafilter Basket is used in conjunction with the Urnex Cafiza powder to clean the internals of the brew group, including the 3-Way Solenoid Valve.
Group Head Brush
This brew group brush is packed with stiff nylon bristles to clear loose coffee grounds from your brew group, so you can more easily keep everything clean, especially the group head gaskets. You must keep that gasket free of coffee grinds and built-up coffee oils or it will wear unevenly and fail prematurely. Group head gaskets are not considered warrantied parts for any manufacturer, so proper care is a must. In addition, if the brush is completely dry, you can also use it to help clean off the grinding burrs in your grinder's chamber.
Two Shot Glasses
Two marked shot glasses are included in this starter kit to help you prepare proper espresso. A shot of espresso is 1 ounce, and both a single and double shot (2 ounces) should brew in approximately 20 to 30 seconds, with a thick layer of crema as the indicator of a great shot. Since it is difficult to eyeball 1 or 2 ounces in non-standard cups, these shot glasses are a huge help. |
