Dual Brass Boiler Heating System with Burnout Protection
Ascaso built the Steel DUO Office with two brass boilers to bring commercial-grade functionality into the office at a reasonable price. The 8 ounce brass boiler for coffee and hot water is powered by a 900 Watt heating element that is integrated into the outside of the boiler. This is so important when the machine is used by many people who likely have little understanding of how to prevent damage to the boiler. Heating elements mounted inside a boiler will overheat and burst if the boiler is run dry, but the Ascaso Steel DUO Office will not fail. Ascaso engineers added a second boiler, a brass thermoblock, for continuous steam power for your cappuccinos and lattes. This thermoblock can be set to always be on, or can be switched off to save energy when milk drinks are not needed. Ascaso also included a low water shut-off, a very life-saving device normally found only on heat exchanger espresso machines. In addition, the all-brass boiler is situated directly above the brass brew group to minimize heat loss.
Heavy-Duty Portafilter And Filter Baskets
Just like a commercial espresso machine, the Ascaso Steel DUO Office uses only heavy-duty chrome plated brass portafilter holders and spouts. The same filter holder is used for both ground coffee and pods, and the DUO Office comes with 3 stainless steel filter baskets for different espresso preparations. Included are separate Supercream single shot and double shot 57 mm diameter filter baskets for ground coffee which ensure a good head of crema even if the grind is not perfect. Also included is one single pod filter basket for E.S.E. (Easy Serving Espresso) pre-packaged pods. We offer pods from both Illy and Lavazza.
Energy-Saving, On-Demand Steam Power
The brass thermoblock for steam on the Ascaso Steel DUO Office will provide continuous steam for frothing at the press of the button. The dedicated water pump and heating element automatically regulate the flow of steam, so you don't have to guess how far to open a valve. The Steel DUO Office is one of the only energy saving espresso machines under $1000. Behind the steam wand is a power switch for the steam thermoblock. Leave it on to always have steam at the ready, or shut it off to save energy when making non-milk beverages like Americanos.
Easy To Froth Milk
The stainless steel steam wand on the Ascaso Steel DUO Office makes it easy to create that velvety micro-foam that we have all come to love. Frothing milk on a commercial machine is hard enough, so Ascaso designed this swivel-mounted steam wand with a special aeration hole drilled on the side of the frothing tip. When frothing milk on the Ascaso Steel DUO, please make sure to have the little hole in the frothing adapter positioned at the top level of the milk. Doing it this way will help force more air into the milk to make the process easier. A new 3-Hole frothing tip is now also included for those who are ready to master the art of frothing milk perfectly.
3-Way Solenoid Valve
The Ascaso Steel DUO Office wouldn't be complete without its 3-Way Solenoid Valve. This valve, a critical component on commercial espresso machines, is located on the group body. It not only directs the flow of water from the boiler to the brew group, but it also acts to relieve remaining pressure once the brew cycle is complete. This process stops the dripping after you are done brewing your espresso, and it also dries out the coffee puck so that it may be knocked out more easily.
Temperature Gauge
An easy-to-read temperature gauge on the Ascaso Steel DUO Office makes inconsistent espresso shots a thing of the past. Never again have to worry if your water is too cold, or just as critical-- too hot. Most importantly, use this handy gauge as a reference point once you have found your perfect shot of espresso. Brew from the same temperature every time, and you will never throw out shots again.
Easy To Use Controls
The Ascaso Steel DUO Office operates entirely with its 4 polished steel microswitches. Each of the push button switches put other brands' controls to shame; these ones are built to last. From left to right, is the Power, Coffee, Hot Water, and Steam. Indicator LEDs just beneath each switch inform you when the Steel is powered up, and when it is at the proper temperature for either brewing espresso or frothing milk, and a fourth LED illuminates when the water level is low.
Commercial Quality Brew Group
Designed after Ascaso's commercial espresso machines, the Steel DUO group head (the part that accepts the portafilter) evenly distributes heat and reduces "hotspots" for more temperature consistent espresso. Mounted directly beneath the boiler, this design shortens the flow of water and offers incredible temperature stability. The marine grade brass is chrome plated for corrosion resistance and easy cleanup. It has also been designed to evenly distribute water across the coffee grounds for a better extraction.
Removable Water Tank
The Ascaso Steel DUO Office uses a 68 ounce removable water reservoir, equipped with a low water cut-off, that can be filled by taking it out the right side. In addition, one of the blue LED indicators will illuminate when the water level is too low. Even the drip tray is easy to remove and includes baffles so that dirty water doesn't slosh and spill when you take it to the sink.
One Year Parts And Labor Warranty
The Ascaso Steel DUO Office comes standard with a one year parts and labor warranty limited to manufacturer's defect or workmanship and covers internal parts excluding replaceable parts such as the group head gasket, portafilter basket, shower screen and other external gaskets, such as steam tap gaskets and o-rings. Any damage resulting from abuse, misuse, mishandling, lack of maintenance, or catastrophe will not be covered. This warranty applies only for household and personal/office use in the United States.
