- Q: How does the Rancilio water softener work?
A: The Rancilio water softener connects your Silvia's or Epoca's intake hose (the notched hose) and has a resin core that is super-saturated with sodium from salt. As water passes through the resin, the minerals that make water hard (magnesium and calcium) are exchanged for the sodium. Once the resin has become saturated with the calcium and magnesium, it will no longer soften the water and simply needs to be recharged. Read more about a proper water supply here.
- Q: How often must I recharge the Rancilio water softener?
A: The Rancilio water softener should be recharged at least once a month, depending on use.
- Q: Do I need to charge the softener before first using it?
A: No, the Rancilio water softener comes to you pre-charged and ready to use.
- Q: How do I recharge the Rancilio water softener?
A: Please follow these simple steps below:
- The machine should be off and cold before following these steps.
- Prepare this solution: Mix three teaspoons of fine salt in a glass of water.
- Drain the water tank.
- Remove the water softener from the rubber tube and turn it over.
- Pour the solution through the filter and resin. It will flow freely.
- Let is sit for about 5 minutes, then run tap water through it to rinse it. When the water coming out of the softener is no longer salty, the resins are regenerated. The softener is now ready for use.
- Put the softener back on the tube and place it vertically in the tank, wedged in the protruding plastic cross.
- The machine is now ready to be turned on and used again.
