- Q: How is "semi-automatic" different from "automatic" and "super-automatic"?
A: A "semi-automatic" is a machine that is such that the user must press a button both to start and to stopthe brew process. An "automatic" is a machine that is such that the user needs only to press a button once and the machine stops and starts the brew process. A "super-automatic" is a machine that will grind, tamp, brew, stop brewing, and dispose of grounds all with one push of a button. The Impressa J5 is a super-automatic.
- Q: This machine uses a ThermoBlock, what does it do?
A: A thermal block (ie Capresso's ThermoBlock) is a block of metal with a heating element and water channels inside. Water enters the channel (thanks to a water pump). The block heats the water inside. When the steam button is pressed, the block is flash heated, evaporating the water inside and producing creating steam. When it is time to brew, the block is brought back down to brewing temperature, a process which is instant.
- Q: How long should I keep the machine on... all of the time?
A: The machine will automatically shut off after a programmed amount of time.
- Q: How many espresso drinks can I brew at once?
A: The J5 can brew as much as sixteen ounces of espresso/ crema coffee at one time.
- Q: How do I use the steam wand to make a cappuccino or latte?
A: The Impressa J5 integrates an automatic cappuccino system. This system uses negative pressure to pull milk out of a container and dispense the milk into a cup. You can even adjust the frothing device to determine how much foam is created: more foam for cappuccino, less for latte. If you need hot water, an included hot water attachment can be fitted onto the steam outlet.
- Q: About how many espressos can I brew then froth milk for at one time?
A: This depends on the amount of milk that you are going to steam. In general, remember to steam the milk first, then brew the coffee. We recommend creating no more than six espresso drinks at once. That's because your first espresso will begin to die after this time.
- Q: What design elements are unique to the J5?
A: The J5 is the first super-automatic espresso coffee center to incorporate design elements into both side and rear panels. This makes it ideal for placement under cabinets or on kitchen islands.
- Q: Why is a width adjustable brewing spout important?
A: Some small espresso cups aren't wide enough to accept the coffee dispensed from both spouts. The J5, however, is the first machine to accommodate demi-tasse espresso cups by allowing you to adjust how far apart the two spouts are from each other.
- Q: What is the difference between the Impressa J5 and other Jura-Capresso machines?
A: The Jura-Capresso Impressa J5 uses the identical brewing chamber as all other Jura-Capresso Impressa models. That chamber uses a Swiss designed dual process brewing system and can hold up to 15 grams of ground coffee, twice as much as most of its competitor's brew groups. There are several differences between the J5 and other super-automatic coffee centers, like the Jura-Capresso Impressa F9 or Jura-Capresso Impressa E9. For example, in addition to having programmability options that the E series lacks, the J5 has but the E and F series lack: the new quiet grinding active-monitoring burr grinder, an integrated automatic cappuccino attachment, multi temperature settings for hot water, a width adjustable spout, fully finished side and rear panels, and the curved coffee bean inspired front panel. The J5 also differs from the Jura-Capresso S7 Avantgarde and S9 Avantgarde in that the S machines lack an integrated automatic cappuccino attachment, multi temperature settings for hot water, a width adjustable spout, fully finished side and rear panels, and the curved coffee-bean inspired front panel. However, the J5 uses only one heating system, whereas the S series machines integrate two heating systems, one for steaming and one for brewing. Finally, the J5 is very similar to the Impressa Z5 and Impressa Z6 in both design and function. The Z machines, however, lack multiple dispensing temperatures for hot water, and fully finished side and rear panels. The Z machines, however, use two heating systems, compared to the J5's one, and integrate one touch cappuccino and latte technology, allowing for the creation of milk-based coffee beverages at the press of a button, without even moving your cup. - Q: What happens if something goes wrong after I receive my machine?
A: The Jura-Capresso Impressa J5 includes Jura-Capresso's full one year warranty, during which time you have access to toll-free technical support. If technical support determines that the unit needs repair or replacement, Jura-Capresso will cover all expenses involved in returning it to a repair facility and shipping a repaired or replacement unit back to you.
- Q: Can I get an extended warranty with the J5?
A: Yes. The paperwork for purchasing a second year of service will be included with your machine.
