New from Baratza for the Spring of 2012 is the Encore, an updated version of their entry level conical burr grinder. The Encore, which replaces the former Maestro Plus, has undergone a serious internal facelift but does look similar to the Maestro Plus on the outside. While the Encore wears the same body as its predecessor, the burrs have been upgraded, the timer switched has been replaced with a simple on/off knob, and the 2nd generation Gearbox (GB2.0) has been added. The improved burrs allow for more precise grinding for espresso, while still offering you 40 fineness settings from the aforementioned grinds down to coarse for french press. The newer gearbox increases the strength and durability of the drive transmission while reducing the noise. The Encore boasts the same low RPMs (450) and the same pulse grinding switch which makes it so much easier to grind into an espresso portafilter. The best coffee starts with the best preparation.
