Powerful Brass Boiler
The Ascaso Steel UNO "Special Edition" Versatile has been recently upgraded with a heavy-duty boiler constructed entirely of marine grade brass. This 8 ounce boiler heats faster and produces drier and more powerful steam thanks to the superior heat retention of brass compared to aluminum. Ascaso engineered the "Special Edition" Steel's new boiler to also be more fail-safe with its outside-mounted heating element. All other brands in this class place the heating elements on the inside of the boiler, leaving them vulnerable to burn-outs if the boiler runs dry. The boiler must still be refilled after steaming, but the added protection is most welcome. In addition, the all-brass design conducts heat to the brew group and portafilter to keep those parts hot and to deliver ideal aroma extraction from your freshly ground espresso beans.
Heavy-Duty Portafilter And Filter Baskets
Just like a commercial espresso machine, the Ascaso Steel UNO "Special Edition" uses only heavy-duty chrome plated brass portafilter holders and spouts. The same filter holder is used for both ground coffee and pods, and the "Special Edition" comes with 3 stainless steel filter baskets for different espresso preparations. Included are separate Supercream single shot and double shot 57 mm diameter filter baskets for ground coffee which ensure a good head of crema even if the grind is not perfect. Also included is one single pod filter basket for E.S.E. (Easy Serving Espresso) pre-packaged pods. We offer pods from both Illy and Lavazza.
3-Way Solenoid Valve
The Ascaso Steel UNO "Special Edition" is the best-priced espresso machine to be equipped with a 3-Way Solenoid Valve. This valve, a critical component on commercial espresso machines, is located on the group body. It not only directs the flow of water from the boiler to the brew group, but it also acts to relieve remaining pressure once the brew cycle is complete. This process stops the dripping after you are done brewing your espresso, and it also dries out the coffee puck so that it may be knocked out more easily.
Dual Frothing Tips: Traditional and Easy
The steam wand on the Ascaso Steel UNO "Special Edition" offers the user the option to froth like a traditional barista or with the assistance of an aerating tip. The new Single Hole Tip has been engineered to balance the flow of steam with the size of home espresso boilers. With practice, it will produce the best microfoam of any Ascaso. Frothing milk like a true barista takes quite a bit of practice, so Ascaso also designed this swivel-mounted steam wand with a special aeration hole drilled on the side of the frothing tip. When frothing milk using this tip, please make sure to have the little hole in the frothing adapter positioned at the top level of the milk. Doing it this way will help force more air into the milk to make the process easier.
Temperature Gauge
In the process of upgrading the Steel UNO Special Edition's function, Ascaso engineers installed a front-mounted temperature gauge, read in Celsius, to help you improve aroma extraction when brewing.
Easy To Use Controls
The Ascaso Steel UNO "Special Edition" has 3 metal push buttons and a steam knob to give you entire control over the brewing and steaming process. Each of the professional grade switches are built to last a lifetime. The left switch turns the unit on and off, the middle starts and stops the espresso brewing process, and the right button heats the Steel UNO "Special Edition" to steaming temp. Indicator LEDs just beneath each switch inform you when the unit is powered up, and when it is at the proper temperature for either brewing espresso or frothing milk. Want hot water for tea or Americanos? Simply open the steam knob while in coffee mode, and the pump will push piping hot water out the steam wand. This is also great for cleaning the wand after frothing.
Commercial Quality Brew Group
Designed after Ascaso's commercial espresso machines, the Versatile group head (the part that accepts the portafilter) evenly distributes heat and reduces "hotspots" for more temperature consistent espresso. The marine grade brass is chrome plated for corrosion resistance and easy cleanup. It has also been designed to evenly distribute water across the coffee grounds for a better extraction.
Side-Loading Removable Water Tank
The Ascaso Steel UNO "Special Edition" uses a 68 ounce removable water reservoir that can be filled while operating or can be taken out and filled at the faucet.
One Year Parts And Labor Warranty
The Ascaso Steel UNO "Special Edition" comes standard with a one year parts and labor warranty limited to manufacturer's defect or workmanship and covers internal parts excluding replaceable parts such as the group head gasket, portafilter basket, and shower screen. Any damage resulting from abuse, misuse, mishandling, improper installation, lack of maintenance, or catastrophe will not be covered. This warranty applies only for household use in the United States. Commercial use will void the warranty.
