Pasquini Livia 90 Automatic Espresso Machine

Pasquini Livia 90 Spout The Pasquini Livia 90 Automatic is similar to a commercial espresso machine, but is scaled down for home or light commercial use such as in an office break room or small cafe. It is one of few units that let you program your cup size, so it will stop automatically when finished. The Livia 90 employs heat exchanger technology, widely recognized as the worldwide standard for proper espresso brewing. This boiler technology allows you both brew espresso and steam milk at the same time and allows you to make multiple milk based drinks without pausing to reheat the boiler. Pasquini built the Livia 90 rock solid from the ground up with a heavy duty steel frame and stainless steel body surrounding the large copper boiler and brass brew group. The Livia 90 is a "pourover" unit with a huge water tank that holds nearly a gallon. Just plug it in, add water, and the Livia is ready to use. Brew Italian quality espresso and froth milk in seconds, or create a delicious cappuccino or latte. NSF-Certified.

Automatic Programmable Espresso Brewing

The Pasquini Livia 90 is one of the only automatic espresso machines built for both home and semi-commercial use such as in an office breakroom. Its design and function is similar to the Livia 90 Semi-Automatic, but for the fact that you can program the Automatic model to dispense your desired size of espresso and then stop on its own. Program 2 drink sizes such as one and two shots, or any other size up to 6 ounces. The Livia 90 also offers you a manual switch for cleaning and flushing the unit. The power controls are incredibly simple as well. One flip of a switch gives you the green light and the power is on. The orange light lets you know the boiler is heating. In addition, a color-coded gauge on the front of the machine monitors the pressure in the boiler and indicates when the machine is at the optimum pressure for brewing espresso or frothing milk. It also aids in making adjustments to the boiler pressure if needed.

Copper Heat Exchanger Boiler

The Pasquini Livia 90 Automatic employs a large 1.5 liter heat exchanger (HX) boiler to power all of the coffee, steam, and hot water needs of its user. This type of design consists of two components: the main boiler housing and an isolated water pipe. The water pipe is the heat exchanger through which flows the water for brewing espresso. The main boiler cavity is the power plant; it houses the massive 1200 Watt heating element that heats water to past the boiling point. If you were to look inside the boiler, you would see it about half full of hot water, and half full of steam all under pressure. This technology provides a nearly unlimited amount of steam for milk frothing and at the same time transfers heat to the heat exchanger to bring the brewing water to the right temperature. Unlike many commercial machines, the Pasquini Livia 90 does not connect to your plumbing, but it does, however, have a huge 3.5 liter (almost a gallon!) water tank to supply the boiler. The tank can be filled while it is operating or pulled out and taken to a faucet. For added protection for pump and boiler, the Livia 90 features a built-in particulate filter to stop damaging bits from going through the system.

Commercial Grade And Size Portafilter

Pasquini built the Livia 90's brewing system from the same materials you would find in high end commercial espresso machines. The portafilter is cast from solid marine grade brass, an excellent heat conductor. It is then chrome plated for the ultimate corrosion resistant and easy-to-clean surface. The importance of the heavy brass is that it retains heat to maintain the proper brewing temperature for espresso. The stainless steel portafilter baskets that fit inside come in single and double shots and measure 58 mm wide, the industry standard for commercial espresso machines. The comfortable grip is rugged molded plastic for easy handling and insulation.

Boiler Protection Features

To ensure long life and protection against overheating and burnout, the Livia 90 boiler is equipped with a safety feature called Auto-Refill. This system keeps an eye on the water level in the boiler and when the level falls below a certain point, the computer controlled water level system automatically adds more water. If the machine should run out of water and the Auto Fill system was unable to refill the boiler, the computer will automatically turn the machine off to prevent overheating and damage to the heating element. What’s more, the Pasquini Livia boiler features an over pressure relief valve, which serves as a backup to the boiler pressure regulating system.

Commercial Brew Group

Staying true to form, the Pasquini Livia 90 sports a solid brass brew group. This is the part of an espresso machine which the portafilter locks into, and it features a durable rubber gasket to create the necessary seal for pressure brewing. The heavy duty marine grade brass is the best heat conducting AND corrosion resistant metal available for espresso machines. The outside is chrome plated for a beautiful polished look.

3-Way Solenoid Valve And Anti-Suction Valve

The Pasquini Livia 90 incorporates nearly all the features you would expect to find on a commercial espresso machine. The 3-Way solenoid valve is a crucial component to smooth operation of your Livia 90. Not only does it prevent over-extraction of your espresso by regulating brewing pressure, but it also blows off excess pressure at the end of the brewing cycle to help dry out the spent espresso puck. The 3 Way valve also makes it possible for "back-flushing" and cleaning of the brew group. The anti-suction valve is a part inside the steam valve that prevents milk from being sucked into the boiler when steam condenses thereby contaminating the boiler.

Steaming and Hot Water

The Pasquini Livia 90 provides unlimited steam for frothed milk for cappuccinos and lattes, without waiting for the brewing cycle to finish. A chrome plated brass steam pipe on the left side of the machine brings the steam down to the frothing tip. You have two tips to choose from, a more traditional commercial tip of stainless steel and a second tip made of Teflon. This second tip is a froth enhancer for making no nonsense foam. Small holes on the side of the tip draw in air and direct it into the milk. Instantly you’ll have foamed milk for any number of lattes or cappuccinos. On the right hand side is a dedicated spout for hot water for hot chocolate or tea. Simply turn the knob and the Livia 90 will immediately dispense near boiling temperature water.

Resilient Electrical System

Tailored for heavy-duty home or light-duty restaurant or cafe use, the Pasquini Livia 90 espresso machine can be left on all day, due to its power supply and stable electrical system. The machine is always ready to brew espresso or steam milk. The system heats up the boiler in less than 8 minutes from morning’s first power-up and then it’s good to go all day long.

Removable Cup Tray, Drip Pan and Cup Warming

Both the polished steel cup tray and the sturdy plastic drip tray are easy to remove and clean. Proper heat is essential to a good cup of espresso and the Livia 90 has included a stainless steel passive warming plate, located on the top of the espresso machine, to make sure the espresso doesn’t lose temperature when poured into a cold cup.

Durable Housing and Frame Construction

Constructed to last for years of regular service, the Pasquini Livia 90 espresso machine is built almost entirely with heavy gauge metal. The polished stainless steel housing rests on a powder-coated cast steel frame which gives the Livia 90 a corrosion resistant foundation and exterior.

Cleaning, Maintenance, and Accessories

In order to keep the inside of your Pasquini Livia 90 healthy; it must be periodically cleaned. It is recommended that you regularly perform a “back-flush” of the brew system with Urnex Cafiza. This removes buildup of coffee residue in the group head (part of the machine where you insert the portafilter and coffee basket). Your Pasquini Livia 90 comes with detailed instructions that describe the procedures for maintaining your machine. Scale buildup from naturally occurring minerals in your tap water can build up on sensitive components like the inside of the boiler, which left unchecked will cause considerable damage to the machine. Heat exchanger espresso machines cannot be descaled in the same manner that other units can. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you fill your Livia 90 only with softened, filtered water. Never use reverse osmosis water, however, as it will slowly leech the metals from the pipes and boiler.
