History of Professional Espresso Machines
The first professional machine for espresso coffee was conceived, designed and built by
engineer Orlando Simonelli in his workshop in Tolentino and was named the
Simonelli 1936. This minbar machine was stylistically in harmony with the tastes of the
period but was already technically innovative and ahead of its times. While other companies
still used a lever system to deliver coffee, Simonelli was the first to use an electric pump
which ensured continuous delivery after a properly tamped "porta-filter of cafee".
The Simonelli 1936 was a revolutionary system for the times and still today in use with
the best machines for espresso
and cappuccino, like the
super-automatic coffee center.
The philosophy of building technically innovative machines, placing great emphasis
on design and materials, which inspired Simonelli when building his first machine, has
remained the company mission over its long history. Now Nuova Simonelli's machines are
rated among the finest worldwide, in the company of names like
Rancilio,
Pasquini, and
Espressione.
